On an absolutely perfect day for baseball in Wisconsin, several area teams advanced to state after winning sectional double-headers on Tuesday.

-In Division 1, Beloit Memorial upset sectional favorite Janesville Craig 3-2, then took down sectional host Verona 2-1. The Purple Knights will meet Sun Prairie, who won their sectional at home by taking down Fond du Lac 2-1 and then blanking Oconomowoc 5-0. The two Big Eight squads will meet at state in the quarterfinals around 10:30 a.m. next Tuesday.

-Waunakee won the La Crosse Central sectional as well in Division 1, defeating the host Central squad 6-0 and then slugged past Tomah 10-2. They'll get Kimberly at around 3:30pm on Tuesday in the state quarterfinals.

-Division 2 saw another Beloit school make it to state, as Turner returns for the first time since winning D-2 in 2001 by beating top-ranked Catholic Memorial 2-1 in the semifinal. The Crusaders featured two power conference college athletes, with Ben Dragani heading to Michigan for baseball next year and C.J. Goetz committed to Wisconsin for football after next season. Turner then scored early and often in beating Mount Horeb 5-1 to win the Evansville sectional. Turner will face West Salem on Wednesday in the state semifinals at 6 p.m. next week.

-In Division 2, Waupun also advanced to state. They defeated Jefferson and Mayville. They'll get Mosinee in the state semifinals next Wednesday.

A state baseball preview will arrive in the coming days from the WIAA.
