WIAA State Hockey Field Set

The WIAA State Hockey field is set after sectional champions were crowned across the state. Eight teams will play over the course of three days for the title.

In the first game on Thursday, March 2, the Waukesha Wings (Waukesha North co-op) (24-3), the top seed in Sectional 7, will face Classic Eight co-champion Arrowhead (24-2-1), the top seed in Sectional 8, in a rematch of a game on February 7 in Waukesha won by Waukesha 3-1. The game faces off at 11am.

Immediately following the first game, Bay Port (19-9), who took down traditional power Notre Dame on their way to a four-game playoff win streak as the sixth seed in Sectional 5, will face Sun Prairie (16-8-2), second-seeded in Sectional 6. The Cardinals won their three games by a combined five goals. The teams did not meet this year.

At 5pm, the top seed in Sectional 1 and defending state runners-up Hudson (24-2-1), who blitzed through their sectional, out-scoring their opponents 30-0 in three games, will face Big Rivers Conference foe Eau Claire Memorial (19-7-1), Sectional 2's top seed. The Old Abes won the first contest between these teams 4-3 in Eau Claire on January 5, but the Raiders took the second meeting on February 7 in Hudson, 4-1.

The night-cap features Sectional 3's top seed, Wausau West (23-3-1), who needed overtime to win their sectional over Stevens Point, taking on Sectional 4's number one seed, the West Salem Panthers (West Salem co-op) (22-3-1). These teams did not play in the regular season.

In girl's hockey, the semifinals are set for Friday morning at 11am. The first game pits the defending champion Hayward Co-op against the Green Bay East Co-op, followed by the D.C. Everest Co-op taking on the Sun Prairie Co-op.

iHeartMedia Eau Claire will broadcast any games Eau Claire Memorial is involved in.
