NWL: Lakeshore, Kenosha battle for Wild Card; Eau Claire tied for 1st

Kenosha and Lakeshore will square off for the lead in the South Division Wild Card, while Eau Claire is in a three-way tie for first.

Games on August 2-3:

Lakeshore 5, Kenosha 2

The Lakeshore Chinooks held off a late rally from the Kenosha Kingfish as they went on to win the game 5-2. The Chinooks got a pair in the second from a double by Brian Sobieski (Davenport). Sobieski then added a solo home run to a three-run fourth inning. Lakeshore go six scoreless from Alec Marsh (Arizona State) as he only allowed one hit and one walk while striking out six. The Kingfish got on the board in the eighth from an RBI ground out and then again in the ninth from Mike Madej (Purdue) scoring on a sac flyout. The final guy then struck out to end the game for Lakeshore.

NEXT UP: A rematch with Lakeshore Friday night.

11-16 Second Half (7 GB), 33-29 Overall, Tied for South Division Wild Card

Lakeshore 5, Kenosha 2

15-12 Second Half (3 GB), 33-29 Overall, Tied for South Division Wild Card

Kalamazoo 5, Madison 3 (Game 1) (7 Innings)

The Kalamazoo Growlers scored in all but three innings and defeated the Madison Mallards 5-3 in a seven-inning game.

Kalamazoo 6, Madison 4 (Game 2) (7 Innings)

The Kalamazoo Growlers scored five in the second and completed the doubleheader sweep of the Madison Mallards with a score of 6-4.

NEXT UP:  A third game against Kalamazoo on Friday.

13-15 Second Half (5.5 GB), 32-31 Overall, 1.5 GB South Division Wild Card

(Wenesday) Eau Claire 9, Duluth 7 (10 Innings)

The Eau Claire Express needed 10 innings to defeat the Duluth Huskies 9-7.

NEXT UP: Another game with Duluth Friday.
