NWL Recap: Madison, Lakeshore, Eau Claire pick up wins Monday

Games got exciting late for Madison, Lakeshore, and Eau Claire, holding off late rallies to pick up wins on Monday night in the Northwoods League.

Madison 7, Kalamazoo 4

The Madison Mallards held off a late rally from the Kalamazoo Growlers and won the game 7-4. With the bases loaded and the tying run on first base, Jonah Smith (Creighton) came into the game in the bottom of the ninth inning to throw one pitch to induce a ground ball which ended the game, and give the Madison Mallards (4-3) a 7-4 victory over the Kalamazoo Growlers (4-3).  Madison is now tied for first place at the top of the South Division and has won two in a row.

Lakeshore 5, Battle Creek 3

The Lakeshore Chinooks held off a late rally by the Battle Creek Bombers and won the game 5-3. Lakeshore got three right away in the second. Alex Stevenson continued to be a hot hitter for the Chinooks as he drove in three runs en route to a 5-3 victory over the Battle Creek Bombers.

Eau Claire 3, Thunder Bay 1

The Eau Claire Express (2-5) entered play today on a 5-game losing streak and by defeating the Border Cats by a score of 3-1, snapped teh streak. The Eau Claire Express broke a tie for the eventual game-winner in the top of the ninth to defeat the Thunder Bay Border Cats 3-1.

Green Bay 4, Kenosha 2

The Green Bay Bullfrogs used a key fourth inning to get ahead of the Kenosha Kingfish and win the game 4-2.

Madison (4-3) at Kalamazoo (4-3) - 10:05 a.m.

Standings: T-1st in South Division (6-way tie)

The Mallards play an early game Tuesday morning at 10:05 CST against the Growlers. They head home to host the Wisconsin Woodchucks at the Duck Pond Wednesday evening at 6:05 pm.

Lakeshore (3-4) at Battle Creek (1-5) - 6:05 p.m.

Standings: 1 GB in South Division

The Chinooks remain in Battle Creek for the second game of their two day road trip. First pitch will be at 6:05 pm. Lakeshore will return home for an early game on Wednesday against Green Bay with the first pitch of that game coming at 11:35 am.

Kenosha (3-3) at Green Bay (3-4) - 6:35 p.m.

Standings: 0.5 GB in South Division

Despite Monday's loss, the Kingfish remain only a half-game out of first place in the South Division. Kenosha plays at Green Bay on Tuesday.

Eau Claire (2-5) at Thunder Bay (2-5) - 10:05 a.m.

Standings: 3 GB in North Division

The Express will finish the series in Thunder Bay Tuesday morning before returning home for a 6:35 pm first pitch on Wednesday, June 6th, against the Bismark Larks.
