Monroe at Stoughton

Wisconsin commit Sydney Hilliard scored 32 points to lead the Monroe Cheesemakers to a 63-52 road conference win over previously-undefeated Stoughton on Saturday afternoon.

Hilliard dazzled with an array of shooting, reverse layups, and clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to close out the Vikings. Her defense was also top-notch, recording (unofficially) eight rebounds and two steals.

Monroe never trailed by more than a single possession's worth of points in the contest, and led by as many as 13 points before settling for an 11-point win. The Cheesemakers got 11 points from Megan Benzschawel, nine from Emily Benzschawel and Grace Tostrud, and two points from Grace Mathiason to round out their scoring.

Stoughton got nine players into the scoring column, led by Alex Ashworth, who hit four three-point baskets. The Vikings got nine points from Emma Kissling and eight apiece from Ashley Nelson and Peighton Trieloff, who spent most of the game shadowing Hilliard defensively.

Stoughton will play Lakeside Lutheran in non-conference play Monday, while Monroe has a few days off before Friday's highly-anticipated showdown at home against Monona Grove. The Monroe-Monona Grove game will put two Big Ten commits head-to-head, when Monroe's Hilliard (Wisconsin) takes on Monona Grove's McKenna Warnock (Iowa).
