Badger Challenge: North takes five of six games from South

A six-game slate was on tap at Waunakee High School in the Badger Challenge on Saturday, and the host Warriors were among five Badger North teams to claim victories, including Mount Horeb's triumph in the first-place game over Oregon.

While the 7th and 8th place games were postponed, Saturday's games went on as scheduled. Edgewood got things going with a 75-51 win over Portage in the 6th-place game, the lone win for the Badger South in the event.

A Little Ten showdown was on tap in the 5th-place game. Beaver Dam was able to keep the scoring down against a high-pace Watertown offense, winning 54-45.

In the 4th-place game, last year's Badger Conference champions in the North and South got together, with host Waunakee drubbing Monona Grove 62-47.

Stoughton had a 10-point lead in their 3rd-place match-up with Reedsburg, but the Beavers came back and won 61-58.

An interesting 2nd-place game took place between DeForest and Monroe. Each team features one of the top seniors in the state and ranked underclassmen as well, with Austin Westra (DeForest) leading the Norskies to a 66-58 victory over Kade King (Monroe) and the Cheesemakers.

In the 1st-place game, Mount Horeb blitzed hot-shooting Oregon 82-61 to claim the event's championship. The Vikings lead the Badger North by two full games.

No make-up dates have been announced for Sauk Prairie vs. Milton or Baraboo vs. Fort Atkinson, the Friday games postponed due to weather. Regardless of those outcomes, the Badger North claims victory in this year's Badger Challenge.
