Brewers deal for Orioles infielder Jonathan Schoop

In the minutes leading up to the non-waiver trade deadline, the Milwaukee Brewers dealt for Baltimore Orioles infielder Jonathan Schoop, sending away Jonathan Villar, Luis Ortiz, and Jean Carmona in the trade.

Schoop started 215 games at shortstop in the minor leagues, as well as seven appearances at short in the majors, and that would be a possible starting spot for him with the Brewers, who recently acquired Mike Moustakas and already have Travis Shaw manning third and second base.

Villar, who turned down an eight-figure extension offer from the Brewers, and Ortiz are the centerpieces of the trade. Ortiz was rated as the Brewers' #7 prospect.
