Brewers sweep Mets, win 3-2 on Sunday

Only hours after outlasting the Mets in an 18-inning marathon on Saturday, the Milwaukee Brewers defeated New York 3-2 on Sunday afternoon to sweep the series behind a strong pitching effort from Zach Davies and a two-run home run by Christian Yelich.

Yelich hit his home run during a three-run third inning, and the scoring held as Davies lasted into the eighth inning to save a spent bullpen. Josh Hader struck out the side in the ninth to get the save.

Lorenzo Cain made a big defensive play in the game, but was hit on the hand by a pitch and had to leave the contest. Manager Craig Counsell said after the game that Cain will get Monday off.

Milwaukee faces the Washington Nationals Monday at Miller Park. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m.
