Brewers shut out for first time in 2019 3-0 vs. Reds Tuesday night

Three first-inning runs was all the scoring in Tuesday night's game at Miller Park, with the Cincinnati Reds earning their seventh shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, who hadn't yet been shut out in 2019.

Four Reds pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts in their win, led by Sonny Gray's six innings pitched with nine strikeouts. Cincinnati limited the Brewers to six hits in the contest.

Lorenzo Cain and Keston Hiura each had two hits, and Brandon Woodruff, a pitcher, got a hit as a pinch-hitter for Milwaukee.

The loss spoiled a solid effort by Gio Gonzalez, who settled down after the opening inning to pitch five innings with the three runs allowed. Freddy Peralta and Adrian Houser each had two scoreless innings of work in relief.

Christian Yelich was a scratch from the game with back spasms, and manager Craig Counsell didn't expect that Yelich would be able to play in Wednesday's afternoon contest at Miller Park either.
