Late Thames HR lifts Brewers to 2-1 win over Pirates Sunday

Eric Thames hit a home run to dead center field in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Milwaukee Brewers past the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The win gave the Brewers a series victory and a 5-5 record on their 10-game homestand.

Zach Davies worked into the sixth inning before giving way to the bullpen, which put together three and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief. Davies scattered six hits and allowed the lone run in the game.

Christian Yelich doubled in the contest for his 1,000th career hit.

Next up, the Brewers are in Cincinnati for four games before meeting the Pirates again next weekend in Pittsburgh before the All-Star Game.
