Sonny Gray pitched eight innings and struck out a dozen Brewers as the Reds blanked Milwaukee 3-0 on Wednesday night.
The Brewers mustered just four hits against Cincinnati, also drawing just one walk.
Jhoulys Chacin turned in a solid game of his own, giving up just two runs in six innings of work.
The four-game series concludes Thursday afternoon in Cincinnati. Milwaukee will then head to Pittsburgh for a three-game series against the Pirates ahead of next week's All-Star Game.
