Mike Lucas offers his thoughts on the Badgers' first win in six tries, 78-69 over Illinois, on Thursday night.
Ethan Happ was the story. Brevin Pritzl was the feel good story. Happ burned multiple low post defenders. Illinois doesn't have rim protector/shot blocker. Made them pay. Pritzl snapped out of slump with work on defensive glass/hustle which led to rhythm jumpers/clutch FTs in 2H— Mike Lucas (@LucasAtLarge) February 9, 2018
UW executed 2 in-bound lobs from Brad Davison to Ethan Happ. One was highlight worthy. With 1 second left on shot clock Happ guided pass into basket. Happ had more assists (8) than boards (6). Entertaining scoring duel btw Happ(27) & Trent Frazier(32) who hit some unconscious 3's— Mike Lucas (@LucasAtLarge) February 9, 2018
Illinois was forcing an average of 22 turnovers on home floor. Badgers had only 10 while dominating scoring in paint (32-16) & off bench (20-12). Had 20 assists on 25 FG's. Beyond extending winning streak to 13 in series it was a much needed confidence booster esp coming on road— Mike Lucas (@LucasAtLarge) February 9, 2018
