Truck driver who hit school bus sentenced to 20 years in prison

A trucker who was convicted of injuring multiple passengers after hitting a school bus while under the influence was sentenced to a total of 20 years behind bars Monday.

43-year old Wayne Murphy of Indianapolis slammed into the disabled bus May 23, 2018 on the interstate near Lodi, with fifteen of the more than thirty passengers injured. Authorities say Murphy likely abused his dosage of the prescription narcotic Xanax before the collision, and had hit a highway mile marker before clipping the bus. Authorities say the collision may have resulted in deaths if Murphy’s semi truck had made a direct hit, but Murphy made an evasive, driving move just before the collision.
