'Are You Kidding Me?' NFL doubles down on roughing the passer call

Dan Patrick is in disbelief that the NFL is going all-in on declaring the two roughing the passer calls in the Packers-Vikings games as clear examples of what not to do when hitting the quarterback. "Are you kidding me?" he said on Tuesday morning, opening up a debate about consistent enforcement of a (possibly) broken rule, as well as where the NFL is trending in regards to protecting the quarterbacks.

The most egregious call of the weekend was a roughing the passer penalty against Clay Matthews, who appeared to form tackle Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, which resulted in an interception. But because Matthews "scooped and pulled" on the tackle, it was deemed excessive and unnecessary roughness, so out came the flag, and the game ended in a tie instead of a likely Packers win.

Now, the NFL is saying that what Matthews did is the prime example of what NOT to do, and will be using video of the play as a teaching moment for officials.
