ESPN's Rob Demovsky tells The Double Team why Mark Murphy and the Green Bay Packers decided to hire Matt LaFleur only a week after the regular season ended.
One of the biggest reasons was perhaps that the organizational structure may have made potential candidates uncomfortable, since Mark Murphy was directing the search. However, in the favor of LaFleur, teams were looking for rising offensive coordinators who had experience directing explosive offenses or working with coordinators, so the Packers found their guy who fit that bill.
Another big positive perhaps in the hiring is that the Packers will apparently retain the services of Mike Pettine and his staff on the defensive side, which will mean only the offense will see wholesale changes in philosophy.
