Melvin Gordon wants to make a deal

Melvin Gordon reportedly wants a trade if he can't get his contract re-done for this upcoming season. Don Banks of Patriots.com says Gordon doesn't have any leverage to negotiate in the final year of his rookie deal, which pays him $5.6 million.

Gordon, entering his age 26 season with the Los Angeles Chargers, has rushed for 3,628 yards in four seasons while adding another 1,577 yards receiving. He's also scored 38 total touchdowns in the regular season and two more in the playoffs.

The two-time Pro Bowl running back could also hold out if his demands aren't met.

Another big piece of NFL news this week is how the league is trying to get the NFLPA to agree to an 18-game schedule, with some creative suggestions on how to get there. That includes a proposal to have an 18-game schedule, but limit players to 16 games in the regular season.

NFL Insider Pete Banks joined The Mike Heller Show to discuss the Gordon situation as well as the NFL toying with the notion of an 18-game schedule.
